Date: 2004-08-07 10:13 am (UTC)Cyriacus, saint (edär 3), a bishop of Jerusalem allegedly martyred under Julian the Apostate in 362. According to van Esbroeck (1990, with previous lit.), although against some other scholars, the figure of Cyriacus is not purely fictive but has some roots in Jewish-Christian milieu of Jerusalem before 135 AD (s. Drijvers — Drijvers 1997, 12-29, for a review of existing viewpoints). His legendary Martyrdom is known throughout the Christian world (Bibliotheca Hagiographica Graeca 465; for Oriental versions s. Guidi 1904-6, especially for Eth. which ultimately goes back to Syr.: Guidi 1906; for Syr. Pigoulewsky 1927-8).
Beside, his hagiographical “dossier” contains two important pieces. The most known is a specific version of the legend of the Finding of the True Cross (Drijvers — Drijvers 1997, s. Cross, Finding of), where a Jew, named Judas, is helping St. Helene to find the Cross; after this, he converts and is baptised with the name Cyriacus and then becomes the bishop of Jerusalem.
Another and often neglected text is “A Tract Which Describeth How The History of Saint Mary Was Discovered”. This is a kind of preface to the Transitus [of the Virgin] in six books (whose date is 5th-6th cent.; however, the date of the preface may be later) existing in Syr., Arab., and Eth. (s. Falsta) which can help to understand the relationship between C. of Jerusalem and C. of Bahnesa as an authoritative witness of traditions on the Virgin (incl. Transitus) in the Coptic and Ethiopic hagiography. The “Tract” says that the book of Transitus was obtained through C., bishop of Jerusalem, by the ruling persons of the monastery of Batos on Sinai, and these people presided over 320 monasteries on Sinai. Leaving aside the exageration, an historical substrate of the story is recognisable: Melkite monasticism on Sinai and especially in the monastery of Batos was flourishing in the post-Chalcedonian epoch, while especially in the 7th and 8th centuries, and its links with Patriarchate of Jerusalem (Melkite as well) are well known. Therefore, the “Tract” is probably a Melkite composition in which C. of Jerusalem became a (Melkite) witness of the origin of the Transitus story; instead of this, Coptic anti-Chalcedonians used to refer to C. of Bahnesa.

безпокоют многих! Дело у них значит "растет" (на радость нам).
Не погибло. Совсем наооборот.
А то не тратили бы столько усилий, просто "так"...
