We can't expect a dog to understand quantum mechanics, and it may be that we are reaching the limit of what humans can understand about string theory. Maybe there are advanced civilizations out there to whom we appear as smart as dogs do to us, and maybe they have figured out string theory well enough to have moved on to a better theory...
собственный тезис Виттена тоже хорош (и мне очень серьезно нравится, с философской т.зр.):

What is the core idea, analogous to the principle of equivalence in the case of general relativity?
One basic fact is that we don't know.
это и возмутило обсуждающих. они называют это цинизмом.
кажется, как теперь я начинаю вникать, теория суперструн совсем не изучалась теми философами, которые заняты историей-методологией науки, т.е. историей научных программ и т.п.
возможно, есть все же какие-то статьи, которые не оказали или не успели оказать влияния на самих физиков. если кто-либо знает таковые, я был бы очень признателен за ссылку.
