Scripta ecclesiastica is a new supplementary series to the Scrinium. Revue de patrologie, d'hagiographie critique et d'histoire ecclesiastique dedicated to the medieval Christianity, especially to the medieval Christian hagiography and cult of saints.
It is very symbolical that the first volume of the series is consecrated to a saint whose veneration was equally great in both Christian East and West during several centuries. Indeed, in the epoch Barbara Crawford deals with, St Clement of Rome cult was of quite special importance not only in Scandinavia and British Isles, but also in Eastern Europe, and especially in Old Rus' and Bulgaria. Hopefully, such areas of the common Christian heritage of East and West will be always in the field of interests of the periodical Scrinium and of its supplement series as well.
There are, in the near plans of the Scripta ecclesiastica, monographs in the Christian East as well as republication of the most of the articles by the late Michael van Esbroeck, s.j., ("Scripta Minora"). Hagiography will be the first, but not the exclusive interest of the series. Rather, it will be dedicated to all that, in the medieval Christian cultures, that facta and scripta sunt ut credatis quia Iesus est Christus Filius Dei (John 20:31).
